St Joseph’s Catholic College, located in Aberdeen, has a rich history spanning over 123 years, continually evolving to meet the educational needs of the Upper Hunter region. From its roots as a boarding school for boys to its current standing as a regional high school, the institution has seen numerous renovations and developments to broaden and improve its educational facilities. Most recently, St Joseph’s sought to enhance its carpark layout and safety measures, and Dolphin Line Marking was entrusted with the task of completing this important project.

Dolphin Line Marking, a renowned provider of high-quality and durable line marking solutions, was the perfect choice for St Joseph’s. Known for its precise and safety-compliant markings, Dolphin Line Marking was called in to reconfigure the carpark to improve traffic flow, ensure compliance with accessibility standards, and boost overall safety for staff, students, and visitors alike.

The Project Scope

Dolphin Line Marking undertook a comprehensive carpark line marking project at 49-53 Segenhoe Street, Aberdeen. The services included the following elements:

  • Car Park Bays (1000mm White): Clearly defined parking bays were created to maximize space allocation, ensuring that all users could easily identify designated parking areas.
  • Turning and Straight Arrows: Directional arrows were marked to streamline traffic flow, guiding drivers through the carpark and reducing confusion.
  • Non-Slip Pedestrian Crossing: To improve pedestrian safety, non-slip pedestrian crossings were installed, helping ensure safe passage for students and staff walking to and from their vehicles.
  • AS 2890.6:2022 Compliant Disabled Bay: Dolphin Line Marking ensured that the carpark met accessibility standards by including a fully compliant disabled bay with the appropriate logo and a shared zone for ease of access.
  • “Emergency Vehicles Only” and “Bus Only” Zones: These dedicated areas were marked with 600mm high lettering to ensure that emergency vehicles and buses had clear, reserved spaces to operate efficiently without hindering regular traffic flow.
  • Yellow Hatching and “Keep Clear” Zones: Yellow hatching and “Keep Clear” zones were included to prevent congestion and ensure that key areas remained free of obstacles for safety purposes.

Results & Impact

The completion of this project by Dolphin Line Marking significantly improved the organisation, functionality, and safety of St Joseph’s carpark. By providing clear and durable markings, Dolphin ensured that the parking facility met both aesthetic and safety needs. The inclusion of compliant disabled bays, pedestrian crossings, and well-defined traffic flow markings enhanced the usability of the space, helping to reduce accidents and improve the overall experience for drivers and pedestrians.

Additionally, Dolphin’s commitment to safety standards, as demonstrated by the adherence to AS 2890.6:2022, ensures that the school remains compliant with the latest regulations, contributing to a safer environment for all.
